Build atmosphere with a small palette
Colour becomes expressive when it supports the subject instead of competing for attention.
Collect colour relationships
Photograph small pairings—a warm wall beside a cool shadow, or a bright accent against a quiet field—and compare their emotional weight in a contact sheet.
- Limit a study to three main colours
- Note the light source beside each frame
- Compare saturation before contrast
Edit texture with care
Use local adjustments gently and zoom out often. A believable surface usually needs consistency across a series more than extreme sharpness in one image.
